I'm sure everyone has been in a depression some time or other before. It can happen to anyone anywhere. Sometimes, you don't even realise that you are in one. If you understand what I mean, read on to find out my steps to recognising and getting out of depressions.
- If you find yourself ever in a depression, keep your chin up and keep walking straight. No matter what, you will eventually get out of it.
- Anybody can fall into a depression. Don't blame yourself.
- Keep looking ahead. Know what's coming your way. Depressions can be easily avoided that way.
- Always keep your feet firmly planted on the ground and don't aim too high. That way, if you fall, the landing won't be too hard.
- Friends. Try to keep good company with friends. They will warn you early if they see you slipping into a depression.
- If you feel yourself falling into one, pause and take a few steps back to consider. Sometimes there are simpler paths to take.
- Sometimes people can't get out of a depression because they keep going around in circles asking questions and attributing blame, but not seeing that it was they themselves that got them into that situation in the first place. Just decide in a direction, and trudge resolutely towards it. Before you know it, you'll be out.
- If you are in a very deep depression, ask for help. There's always someone who can lift you out of it.
- If you feel that there is no one around, shout for help. Eventually somebody will come. Don't do something silly like cut yourself and hope that someone will notice. Who's going to look into the hole that you're in?
- Finally, if you're ever going to end up in a deep deep depression, and you're absolutely alone, and no one's going to help you, one piece of advice: always carry a hook and a rope, or learn rock climbing or something. If you fell into a depression, you better just get a ladder or something and climb out.
