CSS Alumni

Last week, Pearl asked me and Nicholas Teo out for dinner, together with Kayne, Natalie, Mark Li and Raymond. She wanted to speak to us about forming an CSS Alumni. The problem is that our peers who leave the Catholic Student's Society are not able to find a ministry in their parish to serve and grow in. The idea is to form a group that can organise Cellgroups for this group of people. By this I mean serious cellgroups; anyway, I don't think people who leave CSS will join cellgroups for fun. It will really be a Christian brother and sisterhood. In the long term, this Alumni will expand its function and reach out to guide the current CSS from without.

Maybe people like Dax can tell me what you think, but I am extremely sceptical for several reasons. First, there are several groups out there that offer communities for such Cellgroups. They have the experience and support that we don't. For example, the Livingstones, the former CCPG (catholic charismatic prayer group) that split form CSS a few years back. Secondly, when people leave the CSS and go out to work, they generally don't want to have anything to do with the CSS anymore. Thirdly, there are many ministries and needs calling out in many places. There does not seem to be a critical enough number of people that would want to put in the effort to get this thing started. So, in my books, I don't see why I should entertain the idea of starting a CSS alumni.
