I was at Tioman last weekend so I guess I'd like to tell you about the diving trip. The weather was good; cloudy at times, but sunny otherwise. If you've watched Finding Nemo, the reef was exactly like that, with the same fishes and all. I love cosying up to anemones and staring at those clownfishes that swim right up to your mask and open their jaws in an attempt to keep you away from their home. They look exactly like Marlin (thats Nemo's dad for those who don't know).
Some other highlights of my trip: Seeing the biggest barracuda of my life. It was alone and about 10 metres above us, i would say almost 2 metres in length. My buddy saw it first and I got quite a scare when I did. Gave us a stare and looked as if it wanted to turn towards us but swam away instead.
There were these strange little sea slugs that I noticed all over the place that were purple and white in colour. Saw two of them together mating on a rock and a third trying to get in on the act.
Was swimming with the current and staring ahead when out of the blue (literally) a pretty large turtle appeared swimming right towards me. Rather exciting coz its pretty big and was headed right at me. Usually, we only spot small turtles resting on the sea floor and they swim away when you disturb them.
There is this island that is a rocky outcrop with huge boulders and it was a good dive because I just love swimming through the rocks. It's like flying. There was this really nice cavern (ok, it was quite small) that had a flat ceiling that was covered in yellow soft coral. It was like being in a secret garden of flowers.
And poor-old-deprived-us-in-Singapore-who-never-get-to-see-the-stars enjoyed a wonderful night of stargazing. I brought my binoculaurs and camped out on this rock right at the very end of the beach at the waters edge. Was cloudy, fell asleep, but woke up at 3am to a perfectly clear sky, the constellation Scorpi and the milky way right in our view. What a wonderful moment, with shooting stars to surprise us every now and then!
Well, just a small view into the things I do.
